I talk a lot about setting goals and taking action towards your goals. What I think I have failed to mention is the time and organization that goes into setting goals. I mean sure you can use the “Goal setting guide” which is free and easy to download (wink, wink).
What I found though, is that people struggle with how to organize their time in order to achieve a goal.
I mean really the number one excuse that we all use for why we can’t do something is because we don’t have the time. How many times have you found yourself saying that? I call BS on that. It’s not that you don’t have the time but rather you don’t know how to organize your time efficiently.

That is going to be our focus for this blog post, organizing time in order to achieve more!
Get a Planner
It can be digital or traditional. My preference is having a paper planner. I have always found that I stay more organized and accomplish more when I write down what I want to do. For some reason, I also feel more creative when I am writing things in pen rather than typing them out.
Find what works for you because planning is the key to success. When you plan your week ahead you will find that you are much more efficient and productive with your time. This is because when you see your week in a wider time frame and not just day by day you are better able to see the challenges that lie ahead and plan accordingly.
Organize your activities
Once you’ve got your agenda it is time to coordinate your week. This is an ongoing struggle for me and I find it can be challenging to stick to the plan. If you feel like you are the same way and believe that even if you map out your time you know you won’t stick to it, that’s okay!
The thing is that even if we plan everything to-a-T, things will never go perfectly without a hitch, but they will go better than they would have without any plan at all.
Make a plan even if you know you won’t follow it 100%. I believe you will still find it to be a useful tool in reminding you what you need to do and keeping you focused.
Schedule “you” time and work time
One thing I always do in my planner is schedule both times for myself and time for work. I try really hard not to falter from this schedule. It might be helpful for you to schedule a time that you want to do productive things like work or study and also schedule the time you want to relax.
For a lot of people this much detailed planning sounds insane, but try it out for a week. You might find that you have more time and more control over your life.

Make deadlines for everything
Nothing gives you a sense of urgency like a deadline. The thing is when we have personal goals we feel like we have all the time in the world to accomplish them. If it’s a personal goal you’re trying to achieve you have to be the one to self-motivate. No one else cares when you finally decide to start your own business or get back into the gym. No one is giving you a deadline or reminding you to do anything. That’s when the dreaded, “oh, I’ll get around to it” excuse kicks in.
If it’s important to give yourself a finishing point. I create yearly, monthly, weekly and even daily deadlines. Without them, I wouldn’t accomplish anything. This is especially important if you are a procrastinator like me. Having a time constraint will be the only thing to kick your butt into gear.
Pencil in something that motivates you
Whatever it makes it so you can look at it whenever you open your phone or planner. Have some motivational wallpaper or a Pinterest vision board. Have a picture of your dream house on the front of your planner.
In my planner, I have notes and quotes at the top of each week. I read them whenever I open up to a new day and remember that there’s a reason and a purpose for my hard work and planning.
Write down what you failed/succeed at
Every Monday. I go into my planner and I assess myself from the previous week. I ask myself, “What did I do that was really great? What was working for me and what wasn’t? Could I have tried harder in this area? Did I make any mistakes?”
I do this because I research successful people and their habits and one common theme I found among successful people is that they fail big. They fail often and they fail hard. What makes them different from other people is that no matter how hard or big they fail they learn from it and they keep trying.
Failure helps us to develop new better strategies. We have to acknowledge failure so that we are able to use it to our advantage. On the flip side, we should also celebrate our success and recognize when we’ve done something well so that we can do more of that thing.

Now that you have the actionable steps follow the 5 step planning process
Step 1: Find 30 minutes on Sunday morning to commit to organizing your planner. This will help you to establish good habits and a ritual. Plan free time, work time, you time, time friends and family, and time for exercise.
Step 2: Write down your monthly goals in your planner so that you look at them everytime you write a new task in there. Are your plans moving you closer or further away from your goals?
Step 3: Set your deadlines. After going over what your goals are set deadlines for those goals and write them into your planner. Set dates, times, and be as specific as possible.
Step 4: Celebrate and acknowledge last week. Go over what from last week you could have done better and what you will try to improve this week. Maybe your time management was off, or you spent too much time working and not enough time for yourself. Then celebrate what you did well and acknowledge that you are making progress
Step 5: Make a note of the things that motivate you. Print out a picture, write something motivational. Keep your motivations front and center
